80th Independence Day Reception

The Consulate General of India in Chicago celebrated the 80th Independence Day with a reception hosted on August 12, 2026 at the renowned Chicago Cultural Center. The event brought together around 300 guests, including elected officials, senior government representatives, local dignitaries, and members of the Indian-American community from business, academia, and the arts.

Welcoming the gathering, Consul General Somnath Ghosh expressed appreciation for the continued support of Indian community members and American friends of India in strengthening India-U.S. relations. The Consul General highlighted the Indian diaspora’s vital role as a bridge between the two countries and emphasized shared values of democracy, innovation, and diversity.

The Consul General also highlighted the contributions of Indian Americans across technology, healthcare, academia, business, and public service, and encouraged deeper cultural, educational, and economic engagement. Participants were encouraged to take part in the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz to deepen their understanding of India’s heritage and achievements.

The evening featured a captivating Bharatanatyam performance by Natya Dance Theater to India’s timeless national song, “Vande Mataram”,  beautifully capturing the nation’s enduring spirit of unity, pride, heritage, and patriotism.
