Emergency Visa

The Emergency Visa service is only for US passport holders of Indian origin and their family members required to visit India due to a genuine family emergency, such as accident, critical illness or death of a family member. Documentary evidence will need to be provided and the applicant will be charged an emergency service fee.

The non-emergency visa applicants can apply for a regular Entry Visa through VFS Global, without submission of any emergency documentation or reason for travel to India, subject to eligibility conditions. Processing of such applications will be as per normal procedures.

Applicants residing within the CONSULAR JURISDICTION of the Consulate General of India, Chicago requiring Emergency Visa may go through the documents check list for Emergency services available at: https://services.vfsglobal.com/one-pager/india/united-states-of-america/visa-services/#emergency. After completion of visa applications and attaching supporting documentation, the applicants may submit their applications:

On Weekdays (Monday- Friday 9 AM-4 PM):

The application for emergency visa on a weekday/working day will be submitted in-person at the VFS Office at the following address:

On Saturday/Sunday/Public Holidays (9 AM-4 PM):

On a weekend/public holidays, the applicant should call the VFS Emergency Visa Contact numbers (+1- 312-871-0130 and +1-929-866-2770) for online submission/processing of emergency visa application. 

In addition, applicants may contact the Consulate on its Emergency Visa Helpline (weekends and holidays only) at + 1-312-753-8530.

It may be noted that Emergency Visa will be granted subject to submission of complete documentation and Consulate’s decision if a case could be regarded as an emergency. Consulate may seek additional documentation in certain cases. Applicants are also advised not to finalize their travel arrangements prior to issuance of visa. Emergency Visa will be issued for a maximum six-month duration.
