11th International Day of Yoga 2025
The Consulate General of India, Chicago, marked the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY 2025) with a major public event at Chicago’s iconic Navy Pier on the morning of Saturday, June 21. The celebration drew over 400 yoga enthusiasts from across the region.
Consul General Somnath Ghosh inaugurated the event with opening remarks, highlighting the global significance of Yoga and this year’s IDY theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” He underscored Yoga’s enduring value as a gift of India’s ancient heritage that transcends borders, faiths, and cultures. Describing Yoga as more than a wellness activity, he emphasized its role as a sustainable and holistic way of life that promotes both individual well-being and environmental harmony.
Following the remarks, a demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol was led by distinguished Yoga instructors Ms. Anu Malhotra, Ms. Vimi Shukla, Ms. Parna Mazumdar, Ms. Pam Brockman, and Ms. Saba Haider.
Set against the scenic backdrop of Lake Michigan, Polk Bros Park at Navy Pier came alive with vibrant energy as participants practiced yoga under clear blue skies on the park’s lush green lawns. The event was supported by the State Bank of India, Chicago, and brought together numerous community organizations including Art of Living – Chicago, Mindful Meditation, Sewa International USA, Isha Foundation, Brahma Kumaris, Yoga Habitat, Heartfulness, Sahaja Yoga, Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur, Yogapathic, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh – Chicago Downtown, Science & Spirituality, Indian Community Niles Township, United Senior Pariwar, FIA Chicago, National Indian Hub, Akshay Patra – USA Chapter, TV Asia, I-USA Media, Adbhut Media, Indo-US Tribune, and PTC News.
Beyond Chicago, the Consulate supported IDY 2025 celebrations across its jurisdiction, including events organized by Mindful Meditation, IL; National India Hub, IL, Icon Shakti, IL, Indian Community of Niles Township,United Senior Parivar & FIA IL; Main Quad at University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, Urbana, IL; St. Louis Indian Cultural Association, St. Louis, MO; Chinmaya Mission, IN; Sanskriti Pewaukee, WI; Michigan Community in Troy, Canton, Farmington Hills, Novi and Indo American Association of Iowa, Johnston, IA.
