Independence Day reception at the Chicago Cultural Center

The Consulate General of India in Chicago hosted the 77th Independence Day reception in the Chicago Cultural Centre on 15th August 2023. Members from the Consular Corps, Congressmen, elected representatives, prominent members of the Indian community, friends of India, academia, and media representatives joined the reception.

In his remark, Consul General remembered the traumatic experience of partition and subsequent socio-economic progress in the newly independent India, which blossomed into the world’s largest democracy. Referring to the “Panch Pran” or five pledges, he emphasized on India’s goal to become a knowledge-driven, developed, and inclusive economy by the end of the Amrit Kal, in 2047. He elaborated on the India-USA partnership in the light of the recently concluded state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also spoke on the forthcoming G20 Summit in India. He called upon the Indian community and American businessmen and innovators to work closely for a shared global vision outlined in the India-USA Joint Statement issued on 22nd June 2023.

Over 400 invited dignitaries graced the reception, where visiting Congressmen and other elected officers spoke on the India-USA partnership and the significance of Independence Day of the world’s largest democracy. A brief but highly professional cultural performance regaled the audience.
