Kala Utsav 2022 

The Consulate General of India kickstarted the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav fortnight to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence with a scintillating showcase of the rich diverse Indian classical dance and music heritage. The Kala Utsav held on 6 August witnessed performances by 10 cultural groups from the US Midwest region at Naperville’s Yellow Box theatre. There were close to 350 people in attendance.

In his inaugural remarks, Consul General Amit Kumar referred to the series of events planned to highlight the vibrant cultural heritage, traditional knowledge systems as well contemporary India. He also underlined our effort to involve the Indian American community in these activities.

Participating troupes/artists included: Chicago Kalakshetra; Nritya Sangeeta; Tarana School of Music and Dance; Utkalaa Center for Dance; Mandala South Asian Performing Arts; Natyalaya School of Arts, Indiana; Sadhana Carnatic Music Academy, Michigan; Taal Academy of kathak Dance, Michigan; Vaadya Vidya Center of Carnatic Guitar; Odissi dance group from Minnesota led by Ms. Sarita Patnaik; and Sitarist Paneesh Rao, accompanied Mr. Saurav Biswas on Tabla.
